Darragh O'Mahony looked shattered after digging so deep at Tour de l'Avenir. He’d been on the attack all day; showing his class and his ability to suffer (Photo with many thanks to Martin O'Loughlin)
Darragh O'Mahony dug very deep at Tour de l'Avenir
These photos of the aftermath of Darragh O’Mahony’s day-long effort at the Tour de l’Avenir reveal just how deep he dug.
The Irishman went clear in the day’s main breakaway on yesterday’s stage 4. The breakaway pulled out a gap of 4½ minutes on the peloton.
But when the cooperation dried up with about 20km remaining O’Mahony jumped those he was with.
And he was only caught with 2km remaining, eventually finishing in the bunch.
These photos show the young Irishman after the stage. He’s definitely a rider who knows how to suffer.
Incredibly despite his aggression, O’Mahony was passed up for the combativity award yesterday. Instead it went to one of the French riders.
