The most successful team on the domestic racing front in 2012 is to assume a new name with some new riders for the forthcoming season.

Previously known as the Dan Morrissey-Speedy Spokes team, they will now be called ‘Aquablue’ – titled after the Cork-based company that will sponsor them.

And according to the rider on the team who helped put the new line-up in place, 2013 should be another good year.

Tim Barry, who enjoyed a stellar season in 2012, landing the Cycling Pursuits Cup and Visit Nenagh Classic, amongst others, said: “We’ve added some real horsepower for next season and we’re looking forward again to getting started.”

Indeed, two of the star names they’ve succeeded in attracting are Damian Shaw from Mullingar Lakeside Wheelers and Waterford Racing Team’s Robin Kelly.

Both riders need no introduction, with Shaw having rode as tandem pilot at the Paralympics this year with Kelly winning the final stage of the Ballinrobe Two-day, the  final stage of the Mullingar two-day as well as the Ned Flanagan Memorial in Kildare at the start of the season.

Kinetica have also announced they'll continue as secondary sponsor to the team for 2013, providing the team with their nutritional requirements.

One rider who isn’t going to be with them, however, is Paidi O’Brien after he moved to the Planet Tri team.

We’ll have more on this later on.
