Dan Martin on his way to victory on stage 9 of last year’s Vuelta
Dan Martin (Garmin-Barracuda) has been busy during the off season and after negotiations in recent weeks he has signed for the major international sports agency Sports Entertainment Group (SEG).
The agency specialises in looking after the contractual and endorsement arrangements for riders from the time they are young through to their development as a major figures.
The match should suit Martin, who is now ranked ninth in the world after a breakthrough year in 2011 saw him emerge as one of the biggest names in the sport.
Stickybottle understands Martin has not been represented by an agent until now.
SEG also represents professionals in other sports including soccer and basketball and has significant interests in the entertainment world.
The company has been operating for much of the last decade under a primarily Dutch senior management team.
However, it also has staff looking after athletes around the globe in countries like Canada, China, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium and Spain.
In a statement about the deal this morning, SEG said its cycling division was delighted to have secured Martin’s signature.
“SEG Cycling is very proud to announce the management of rider Dan Martin, currently positioned as ninth of the UCI World Tour ranking. The Irishman is riding for Garmin-Barracuda and he will target a number of goals in 2012 with hopefully a start in his first Tour de France.”
“SEG Cycling will provide Dan Martin with a variety of management services and aims to jointly further develop his sporting career.”
