Dan Martin has shot up the UCI rider rankings after his
4th place overall rider at La Vuelta and stage win, and numerous placings, on
the Spanish Grand Tour.
The 34-year-old Israel Start-Up Nation has ended the
season in 29th place in the UCI men’s individual rankings having gained 77
places in those rankings for his Vuelta rider.
Martin ends the season with 1,058 points, with Primoz
Roglic (Jumbo Visma) the top ranked rider in the world with 4,237 points.
Next, in 2nd place, is his fellow Slovenian Tadej Pogacar
(UAE Team Emirates) on 3,055 points and Wout van Aert (Jumbo Visma) in 3rd on
2,700 points.
Dan Martin scored the majority of his points at La Vuelta
– 640 to be precise – at the Vuelta; 460 for 4th overall, 100 points for his
stage 3 win and 20 points for each of four stage placings during the race.

While Sam Bennett won a stage at La Vuelta, the
Deceuninck-QuickStep rider dropped in the rankings as many of the Spanish Grand
Tour’s top riders rose up the rankings.
Bennett dropped 17 placings to 37th in the world, on 963
points, some 100 of those scored for his win on stage 4 of La Vuelta. Bennett’s
relegation late in the race after he had crossed the line 1st on stage 9 cost
him 100 points for the stage victory foregone and also 40 penalty points.
But for that sanction he would have had 140 more points
in the end of season rankings and ended the season in 26th place.
In total, some 33 Irish men scored points in the UCI individual
rankings, with points available for all UCI ranked races including national
championships, details below.
