Dan Martin joins Israel Cycling Academy from UAE Emirates

Dan Martin joins Israel Cycling Academy after mixed stint with UAE Team Emirates

Dan Martin’s expected departure from UAE Team Emirates has been confirmed with news that he is to join Israel Cycling Academy for next season.

The Irish climber has competed with WorldTour team UAE
for the past two years, though this year has been underwhelming.

He did little to disguise his criticism of the team
during this year’s Tour de France, claiming his own form was good but that the
team needed to reflect on how it had prepared the riders.

And now a move from the WorldTour to Pro Continental team
Israel Cycling Academy has been confirmed.

“I have seen ICA grow as a team organisation from the
outside and I am excited to be able to join it now,” Martin said.

“By joining ICA, our Joint goal is to combine our huge
appetite for success and to achieve our potential together.

“I have so much respect for what ICA want to achieve , I
just want to be part of it.

“The belief and support shown to me by ICA is a great
reason why I decided that this is a unique opportunity.

“In the last six or seven years I have been following the
same pro tour calendar and I am looking forward to changing it a bit and
discovering new races.

“ICA has enjoyed a very good season in 2019 and the
roster will be even more competitive in 2020”.

Team co-owner Sylvan Adams, who wants to bring the squad to the WorldTour,
said he was “thrilled” to sign the 32-year-old Irishman.

“Martin is a bona fide star of our sport and we hope to support him towards
many victories next season,” Adams said.

“Dan is a true professional who will be great asset to our team. He has proven that he can win single day as well as stage races.”

Israel Cycling Academy already counts one Irish rider among its ranks; former national champion Conor Dunne riding with it this year.
