Dan Martin has highlighted the greater risk for pro cyclists of contracting Covid19 as they are taking the Covid19 tests required for their participation in races.
All pro teams must be able to show that their riders have been tested regularly and that they have passed the test. And once a team returns a positive test, they have been withdrawing from races.
At the Tour de France, if a team records two positive tests they will be automatically out of the race, though some may withdraw after just one.
Dan Martin has now said when went for the test that he needs, he was exposed to a waiting packed waiting room full of people - something that would have increase his risk of catching the virus.
"I understand all the precautions we are taking to avoid Covid but here I am sitting in a packed waiting room waiting to get my PCR test," he said.
Nathan Hass, the Australian riding with Cofidis, told Martin that other riders had been testing themselves at home and sending it on to their teams.
Jack Haig, the Mitchelton Scott rider who looks set to join Bahrain McLaren, replied stating he had undergone a doping test yesterday and that the officials taking his sample had not undergone a Covid19 test.
Martin crashed at Critérium du Dauphiné on stage 2 just 12 days ago and abandoned the race with a fractured bone in his back.
His Israel Start-Up Nation has named its Tour de France team over the past week, with each of the riders being unveiled individually.
At the time of writing Martin was the only rider to be confirmed by the team for the Tour, though it is hoped he will be able to ride.
I think you can order a test, do it at home and mail it in like other teams have been doing?
