Irish cyclists Damien Shaw and Sean McKenna have secured places with the Holdsworth team in the UK.

Both top Irish riders were casualties of the recent collapse of An Post-Chainreaction.

And while that team is planning to return in 2019, its absence from next year’s peloton left several Irish riders without a contract for next year.

News broke earlier this evening that Irish riders Conn McDunphy and Dermot Trulock had signed for new pro squad Holdsworth next year.

Immediately that news emerged it was confirmed McKenna was also joining the team. Stickybottle has learned Damien Shaw is also on his way to the UK outfit.

And with at least four Irishmen in the line-up, the squad will hopefully be in the Rás next year.

As well as the Irish riders, the team has also confirmed some of its other signings.

Isle of Man brothers Tom and Leon Mazzone have also agreed terms with the team.

They are well known to Irish cycling fans, having made a big impression at Kerry Group Rás Mumhan this year.

Russell Downing, one of the most prolific British riders for a decade, has also signed. And he should make a formidable sprint combination with the Mazzones.

Young British rider Jake Womersley will also be in the team, having ridden for Bike Channel Canyon this year.
