Damien Shaw starts the Tour of Britain this Sunday and despite his inexperience at this level, An Post Chain Reaction team manager Kurt Bogaerts reckons his man can do plenty damage.

An Post Chain Reaction team manager Kurt Bogaerts has backed Damien Shaw to come good in the latter half of the Tour of Britain (2.HC) which gets underway in Glasgow this Sunday.

The Mullingar man is one of five Irish riders in the race, with Dan Martin, Nicolas Roche, Conor Dunne and Ryan Mullen also lining up.

Shaw has never raced at this level for eight days before so on paper, it’s the biggest challenge of his career.

But Bogaerts has no fears about the 31 year-old stepping up to the mark, saying: “He’s one to watch, trust me.”

Shaw has been prolific on the domestic scene over the last number of years and would love to shine on the Tour of Britain stage.

“We really believe our guys are ready to put the peloton to the test,” Bogaerts said of his charges.

“They have a huge level of training banked and the motivation and desire is there. They’ll go above what even they think they are capable of doing.

“We know these guys, and they can do some big things in cycling,” he added.

And as for Shaw, he commented: “Damien is going really well. He’s improving in every race and physically he’s well prepared for this race.

“He has hasn’t done many of these top level tours, but he’s keen and a very strong rider.

"We expect some big things, especially in the second half once he settles into the race. He’s one to watch, trust me.”

Also in the An Post-Chainreaction line-up are: Jasper Bovenhuis from Holland, Belgians Emiel Wastyn and Nicholas Vereecken, Oliver Kent-Spark from Australia and Jake Scott who is riding his home tour.
