It may only be the first day of August but already some of those who have grown the Irish cyclocross scene with such great success in recent years are busy making plans for the rapidly approaching winter campaign.
Indeed, they have decided to get the 2014-2015 off road season underway with what sounds like a very exciting fixture in two weeks time in the heart of one of the busiest villages in south Dublin.
The fixture, which will run through the heart of Rathfarnham, is also being held on a Thursday evening in a bid to bring the crowds out and to make the race a social occasion just as much as a sporting one.
Rathfarnham Supercross will take place on Thursday, August 14th. Organised by those stalwarts of the Irish scene Team Worc, the event has won the financial backing of Rathfarnham Credit Union and also the support of Fixx Coffeehouse and Expert Cycles.
The course will also run right through the centre of the village, a very unusual idea for a cyclocross race but one that should make it a great event.
There are two races planned - an A event for those experienced in his code and a B race for those newer to cyclocross or who simply want to race at a slightly easier level.
The B event gets underway at 7pm and is following by the A event at 8pm. There will also be youth events and MTB riders can take part in the B race on the night.
Sign on is outside the Expert Cycles shop on the main street.
The course is a loop of Rathfarnham Village; starting on the main street and running through parkland at the back of the village.
It features some steep banks, fast descents, some wooded single track and the odd run up.
The event is being run on conjunction with a village fare so should really benefit from that association in terms of helping draw in a good crowd and create a great atmosphere.
There will be no parking in the village itself but Rathfarnham Castle has some limited spaces and will be kept open for the evening.
Entry is now open and you can register by clicking here.
