Cyclocross season extends into Tipperary with "Muddy Cup" in Cashel on Sunday

The Muddy Cup promises to be a great event that will bring cyclocross out of its traditional stronghold geographic areas

Not content with competing in the Dublin-based Fixx Coffeehouse Supercross Cup and Ulster Cyclocross Series leagues in the winter months, the cyclocross community is branching out from its traditional strongholds to run a race in Tipperary this coming weekend.

The Muddy Cup, promoted by South Tipperary CC, will unfold in Cashel on Sunday – November 24t - after an event planned for Newchapel on Saturday was cancelled.

The B race will start at 12.15pm with the A race main event getting underway approximately one hour later at 1.15pm.

The entry fee for either race is €20. And while riders are asked to register and pay online in advance to assist the organisers run the smoothest events possible, entries will be accepted on the morning no later than 12 noon.

The course will be the same for both races and will consist of a 2km loop which is described as being of “mixed terrain” with some obstacles peppered along the way to make it interesting.

All riders will be chipped to produce split times for every competitor on each lap. There will also be parking at Cashel Lodge, with the race unfolding on the lands attached to the property.

There will be showering facilities and an area to wash bikes after the event to spare cars from the mud on the journey home if the elements are harsh on the day.

Accommodation is also available at www.cashel-lodge.com with a 10 per cent discount for anyone mentioning they will be in the area for the race.

There are directions to the course on the Cashel Lodge site.
