Gardaí have begun an investigation after two cyclists
required medical treatment following an incident between their group and the
driver of an oncoming SUV.
Though the cyclists crashed during the midweek incident,
the driver did not remain at the scene and an investigation is underway in a
bid to locate the driver.
It appears the SUV driver had just overtaken another car
when he came upon the ongoing group of cyclists on the road, forcing them to
take evasive action. The incident occurred in Co Donegal at midday on Wednesday
between Liscooley and Castlefin.
It appears the cyclists were in single file at the time
when they were knocked off their bikes during the incident. The SUV driver was
towing a trailer.
Two of cyclists required medical treatment for their
injuries, with one attended to at the scene by paramedics and the other taken
to hospital.
Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin, has released
some information about the incident and confirmed an investigation was
underway.
“Gardai are investigating an alleged incident of
dangerous driving which occurred on the N17 near Carrick, Liscooley, Co Donegal
on October 13th at approximately 12 noon,” it said.
“Two of the cyclists, both male, were injured following
the incident. One of these received treatment at the scene while the second was
taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.
“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed
