A cyclist, and member of An Garda Siochana, whose foot was severed in a hit and run last week, while he was cycling, remains in a serious condition in hospital as the suspect in the case has been released without charge.
The woman arrested after the crash, on suspicion she was driving the vehicle, is in her 20s. In a statement on Monday, the Garda said she had been released without charge.
The investigation into the serious incident is continuing. Gardai have again appealed for witnesses and said a file on the case would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution.
Insp Niall Flood lives in Dromcollogher in Co Limerick and was out cycling last Thursday evening close to his home when he was hit by a driver. The crash occurred on the R522, between Dromcollogher and Feoghanagh, near Newcastle West at 7.15pm.
Mr Flood, who is a very experienced cyclist and spends a lot of time cycling, was airlifted from the crash scene by the Irish Community Air Ambulance service and was taken to Cork University Hospital.
The driver left the scene and it is believed she drove to a relative's house. She was arrested and held for questioning before being released.
"The cyclist, a man in his 50s, remains in Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries," the Garda said in a statement on Monday.
"Gardaí are continuing to appeal to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling on the R522 between Dromcollogher and Feohanagh at the time of the incident with camera footage - including dash cam - is asked to make this available to investigating gardaí."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda station on (061) 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
