Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a cyclist suffered serious head injuries in a crash with a truck driver in Co Galway.

The crash occurred on Monday at about 5.30pm and came just hours before a 19-year-old woman was left critically injured in a crash involving a driver in a taxi in Co Cork in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The first incident, news of which has only just emerged, occurred at Russellstown, Miltown, Tuam, Co Galway, with the injured man also aged 19 years.

“At approximately 5:30pm gardaí were alerted to a road traffic collision involving a bicycle and a truck,” the Garda said in a statement.

“A male in his late teens (cyclist) was taken to University Hospital Galway to be treated for his injuries. He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

“The road was closed to allow for a technical examination to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators. This has since concluded and the road has reopened.”

Gardaí in Tuam have appealed for witnesses to come forward and to those with camera footage, including dash-cam, to make it available to them.
