Cyclist suffers gruesome penis injury from handlebar crash mishap

A cyclist in Britain has paid a high price after crashing at low speed and impaling himself on handlebars that were not plugged at the ends....

You may have been feeling sorry for yourself battling the
breeze on the bike this weekend if you ventured out, but that pain is nothing
compared to the recent cycling experience of one very unfortunate teenager in
Britain.

The 14-year-old was rushed to the A&E department of
John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with what can only be called nightmare
injuries; a de-gloving of the penis and scrotum.

A word of advice; do not search any images to see what
penis and scrotum de-gloving is. You will see some sights you will be never
able to un-see.

If we can imagine for a moment that the skin on any
male’s “meat and two veg” is a ‘glove’ of skin, then de-gloving of the skin
from that area should make sense.

His blood supply was also severed as his injury went
across his groin and continued along his undercarriage.

The poor kid was cycling on a pavement at walking speed
with a drink in one hand and holding the bars with the other hand when he
crashed.

His handlers – which were not plugged with bar stops –
went into his groin causing what must have been excruciating pain.

He partially degloved his penis of its skin and also
“inverted” his scrotum, or ripped the skin from it.

Remarkably (and thankfully) the medics in Oxford who treated the teenager reported a positive outcome, according to the British Medical Journal which has studied the highly unusual case.

The medics were able to close and treat the wounds and
determined that no neurovascular damage had been done.

He was discharged from hospital the next day on antibiotics and over the next four weeks checkups suggested normal function had returned.

While deglovings are not unheard of, they usually occur as a result of dog attacks or industrial accidents.
