Cyclist seriously injured in crash with motorist, Gardaí seek witnesses

Gardaí in Limerick City are investigation and road traffic crash this morning during which a cyclist was seriously injured.

The cyclist, a man aged 25 years, was involved
in a crash with a motorist in a car in morning rush hour traffic.

He was taken from the scene by ambulance
and is now described as being seriously injured and undergoing medical
treatment.

The driver of the car was also treated
for minor injuries in hospital following the crash just after 7am.

Gardai
have appealed for any witnesses to come forward and have released a brief
statement outlining some of the details of the incident.

“Gardaí are at scene at a RTC that
occurred at Childers Road, Limerick, this morning, Tuesday 19th, November, 2019,
at approximately 7.15am,” the Garda statement said.

“A male pedal cyclist (25 years) was
seriously injured when struck by a car. The pedal cyclist was removed to Limerick
University Hospital where his condition is described as serious.”

“The male car driver was also removed to
Limerick university Hospital with minor injuries.” Investigations are ongoing.”

The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened. The bike and car are being examined by the Garda as part of the investigation.
