Cyclist seriously injured in crash with driver, gardaí appeal to witnesses

Gardaí have launched an investigation after a cyclist, riding alone, was seriously injured in a crash with a driver in a car

A cyclist in his 70s has been seriously injured in a crash with a driver in a car. The collision occurred on Co Mayo at about midday yesterday, Wednesday, June 14th.

Gardaí have launched an investigation and are appealing to anyone who saw the crash on the N84 in Ballyhean, Co Mayo, to come forward and give a statement.

"The collision involved a car and a bicycle," the Garda statement said of the crash involving the injured cyclist and the motorist. "The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was later taken to Mayo University Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

"A technical examination of the scene was completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since re-opened.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. In particular, anyone who may have observed a lone cyclist on surrounding roads in the Ballyhean area between 11.30am–12.15pm.

"Any road users who were travelling in the area with camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to make this available to the investigation team."
