Cyclist on e-bike seriously injured in crash involving driver, gardaí launch appeal

A teenager on an ebike has been left with serious injuries after a crash involving a driver in a car in Waterford City. The collision occurred on Sunday, with gardaí now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a car and an e-bike, which occurred on Cork Road - R680 - in Waterford City shortly before 8pm on Sunday," Garda Headquarters said in a brief statement.

"The cyclist, a male aged 18 years, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries. The motorist, an adult male, was assessed at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

"The road is currently closed to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam footage from the area at the time, is asked to provide it to investigating gardaí."
