A cyclist has shared a clip of the moment loose timber from a passing vehicle struck him on the head and knocked him out on the roadside.
The cyclist, who is from Australia, said he woke up after
being knocked out and when the driver came to help he had to tell him what had
just happened.
He added the driver was very remorseful but also insisted
he had checked the straps on the time only minutes earlier, though this did not
prevent the “freak accident”.
"You can see that the driver made a concerted effort
to give me enough room as he overtook me," the cyclist said.
"Unfortunately while travelling up the mountain road
the ratchet strap securing the timber failed causing it to swing off the side
of his vehicle. Fortunately he looked into his rear view mirror as he overtook
and saw me fall to the ground.
“He initially thought that I had simply lost control and
crashed as I went off the edge of the road. As he exited his vehicle he noticed
that the length of timber was protruding over the edge of the road and he had
hit me."
