Cyclist killed in Sunday morning collision with camper van

A cyclist has been killed when he was in collision with a camper van in Co Clare this morning.
The dead man, who has not yet been named by the Garda, was aged 50 years.
He is the fourth cyclist to die on the roads of the Republic so far this year and the third in the last fortnight.
A Garda statement said the man killed this morning died at the scene.
“Gardaí at Shannon, Co Clare, are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 11.45am this morning on the N18 main Limerick to Galway Road near Bunratty,” the statement said.
“A 50-year-old male pedal cyclist was fatally injured when he was in collision with a camper van.
“His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick. No other persons were injured in this incident.
“The stretch of road is closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Examination.”
Gardai investigating the man’s death are appealing to any witnesses or any person with information to contact them.

Four cyclist deaths so far this year
Last Friday, March 24th, a cyclist in his 40s was killed when he was in collision with a car on Patrick’s Street, Dublin 8, just before 1am.
Two weeks ago, on Sunday March 12th, another cyclist in his 40s was killed when in collision with a car on Conyngham Road near Dublin’s Phoenix Park.
Last month Tonya McEvoy was killed in Co Kildare when in collision with a car while she was out training.
She was with a training group from Orwell Wheelers at the time.
