
A cyclist has been fatally injured in a crash in Dublin involving a driver in a lorry. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene on South Circular Road.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the fatal crash which occurred at about 8.30am at the junction of Bulfin Road.
The location is at the rear of St James Hospital and beside the construction site where the new National Children's Hospital is being built.
An investigation into the crash has begun and while it is
in the early stages, gardai have released a statement with some of the details
of the incident.
“Gardaí are
investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred this morning Friday
1st November 2019 at approximately 8:30am on the South Circular Road at the junction of Bulfin Road,” the Garda
statement said.
“The collision
involved a lorry and a pedal cyclist. The male cyclist was fatally injured. His
body remains at the scene at this time. The lorry driver was uninjured.
“The scene is
currently preserved for the arrival of the Garda forensic collision
investigators to carry out their examination. The road is currently closed to
traffic and diversions are in place.
“Gardaí are
appealing for anyone with information, particularly any motorists who may have
been on the South Circular Road between 8:15am - 8:45am who may have dash cam footage to come
forward.
