
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating the death of a cyclist after he was injured in a road traffic crash involving a motorist.
The man who died was cycling in the Portadown area of Co
Armagh on Wednesday night when he was involved in a crash with a driver in a
car.
The cyclist was treated by paramedics at the scene before
being taken to hospital but has since died from his injuries.
The PSNI said the fatal crash occurred in the Gilford Road area of Portadown on Wednesday night.
“Shortly after 9:35pm, it was reported that a red Hyundai
Tuscon and a cyclist were involved in
the incident,” the PSNI said.
“The cyclist, who was treated at the scene sadly died as a result of his injuries," the police statement added.
The PSNI has asked that anyone who witnessed the crash or who had dash-cam footage to contact them.
Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd said he was saddened to hear of
the death of the man, aged 40 years.
"My thoughts are with the family, friends and loved
ones of this man at this sad and difficult time,” he said.
"An investigation into to the collision is under way
and I would appeal for anyone with information on what happened to get in touch
with the police."
