A woman in her 70s has been killed while cycling in Co Clare in a crash involving a driver in a tractor. The fatal collision occurred on Saturday afternoon with a Garda investigation now underway.
Gardaí said in a statement that members of the force, along with other frontline emergency services workers, were called to the crash at about 12.45pm at the L3180 at Toonagh, Tulla.
"The cyclist, a woman aged her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene," the Garda statement said. "Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
"There were no other injuries reported at the time. The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Investigations are ongoing."
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and want to speak to any road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - of the crash, on road traffic in the area at the time.
Any road user travelling in the area between 12noon-1pm today is asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ennis Garda station on (065) 684 8100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
