A cyclist has been killed in a crash with a driver in a car in Killarney, Co Kerry. The fatal collision occurred at about 8.20am.

The man who died, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead
at the scene, which has remained sealed off as part of the Garda’s
investigation.

Gardai in Killarney are now seeking any witnesses or
anyone who was recording footage in the area at the time to come forward and
help then with their investigation.

While the investigation into the crash was only beginning
Garda Headquarters has released a statement on the fatal incident.

“Gardaí are
currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a
pedal cyclist that occurred at approximately 8.20am this morning,” the Garda
statement said.

“The incident
occurred on the N22 Tralee-Killarney road in Rockfield, Killarney, Co Kerry. The
pedal cyclist, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His body is due
to be moved to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry where a post-mortem
will be conducted. The coroner has been notified.

“The services of
Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested at the scene. The road is
currently closed and motorists are advised to take alternative routes where
possible. Local diversions are in place.

“Gardaí in
Killarney are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward and
for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were
travelling in the area at the time to make it available to gardaí.”
