Cyclist killed in crash with driver, gardaí launch investigation

A cyclist has been killed in a crash involving a driver in a car in Co Clare. The fatal crash occurred just before lunchtime today, Wednesday, with gardaí now investigating how the man was killed.

Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin, released some details of the crash and appealed for any witnesses, or anybody else with information, to come forward and aid the investigation.

"Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle that occurred shortly after 12:30pm on Wednesday on the N67 - Kilkee to Moyasta Road - at Baunmore in County Clare," the statement said.

"A male pedal cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No other serious injuries to persons was reported. The N67 at Baunmore is currently closed - local diversions are in place. The services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - and were travelling on the N67 in the Baunmore area between 12pm and 1pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí."
