
A cyclist has been killed in a crash, also involving a driver in a car, in Co Galway this afternoon. The scene remained sealed off this evening.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was killed at about 1.30pm. A Garda investigation into the fatality has begun and witnesses are being encouraged to come forward.
In a brief
statement, Garda Headquarters, Dublin, said the fatal crash occurred “at
approximately 1:30pm on the R345 near Corr na Mona”.
“The cyclist, a
man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries have been
reported,” the statement added.
“The road is
currently closed and Forensic Collision Investigators are currently at scene.
Local diversions are in place.
“Gardaí are
appealing for any witnesses to this collision. Gardaí are also appealing to any
road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - and were
travelling on the R345 near Corr Na Mona at this time, to make this footage
available to them.”
