The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is appealing for witnesses to come forward after a cyclist was killed in Belfast in a crash with a lorry driver.

The fatal crash occurred in the Clifton Street area in the north of the city, with the victim pronounced dead at the scene. He has been named locally as 58-year-old Gary McMahon.

Insp Cherith Adair, of the PSNI, said of Thursday's crash: “Shortly before 7:50am, it was reported that a lorry and a cyclist were involved in a collision.

“Gary, who was the cyclist, sadly passed away at the scene as a result of his injuries. Our inquiries into the collision are ongoing.

"I would appeal to anyone with any information, or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 178 21/11/24."

The ambulance service confirmed it sent two emergency crews and one doctor to the scene of the serious incident on the A12.

“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 7.53am on Thursday following reports of an RTC in the Clifton Street Area, Belfast," it said.

“NIAS dispatched two emergency ambulance crews and one doctor to the incident. Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, no patients were taken to hospital.”
