A man has appeared in court to face charges in relation to the death on a group ride of Irish club cyclist Gavin Moore almost two years ago. The motorist denied the most serious charge but admitted a lesser offence

A man has admitted causing death and injury by careless driving relating to a crash in which North Down CC rider Gavin James Moore died.

Another cyclist, Gareth Boyle, who was cycling with the
deceased at the time was also injured.

Hing Tong Cheung (61), Hanover Hill, Bangor, has appeared before Newtownards Crown Court.

He denied causing the death of Mr Moore and causing grievous bodily injury to Mr Boyle by driving dangerously on Bangor Road, Ards, almost two years ago.

However, he admitted a lesser charge of causing the death
and injury by careless driving.

North Down CC rider Mr Moore was part of a group of
riders when he was fatally injured.

Hing Tong Cheung went before the courts earlier this year
in relation to the death of the deceased and injuries to Gareth Boyle.

He was charged with causing the death of Mr Moore, a
40-year-old father of two, and also grievous bodily injury to Mr Boyle by
driving dangerously.

Mr Boyle was hospitalised after the crash with what were
described at the time as serious but non life threatening injuries.

Cheung’s case was before Newtownards Magistrates Court
for a preliminary enquiry in February.

And now he has appeared before the courts again and
pleaded guilty to the lesser offences but denied the more serious charges.
