Cyclist killed by lorry in crash on main Dublin to Belfast road

The latest death of a cyclist is the continuation of a very bad period for road deaths and comes just weeks after a similar fatality.

A man has lost his life while cycling on the main Dublin to Belfast road after he was hit by a lorry this morning, Thursday.

The crash occurred just before 7am on the A1 between Dromore and Hillsborough in Co Down.

The arterial route between both villages was closed in both directions as the emergency services attended the scene.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has begun an investigation and carried out a crash scene examination while the roadway was closed.

That work was completed within hours and the road was reopened.

"Police can confirm a man has died following a serious collision which occurred just before 7am involving a lorry and cyclist," a police spokesman said.
