After a woman was seriously injured when hit by a lorry in Dublin, another cyclist was killed when hit by a truck in Antrim.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating the death of a cyclist who was hit by a lorry in Lisburn, Co Antrim.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was fatally injured when he was hit by the lorry on Knockmore Road.
The PSNI closed the Knockmore Road and Ballinderry Road when the incident occurred just before 2.30pm on Wednesday.
A female cyclist had been hit by another truck in Dublin and left seriously injured less than three hours earlier.
Officers carrying out the investigation into the man’s death in Lisburn have appealed for information.
"I would ask anyone who would have seen the cyclist or the lorry in the area to contact Lisburn Police Station or the Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station on the non-emergency number 101,” a PSNI spokesman said.
DUP MLA Paul Givan came upon the scene of the collision just after it occurred and said other people who happened to be in the area at the time were trying to save the victim as they waited for the emergency services to arrive.
"That junction is one that should have been upgraded years ago, but because of a dispute between Roads Service and the planning service, it hasn't been, it's a hugely dangerous road,” he told Belfast Live.
"I don't know if the upgrading of it would have made a difference today, but that junction has been planned to be signalised for a long time now, despite there being a legal agreement in place to make it happen, it hasn't.
"I'd like to express my sympathy to the man's family, my thoughts and prayers are with them at this tragic time."
