Gardaí seek witnesses as cyclist seriously injured in crash with driver

A boy has been seriously injured while cycling in Offaly in a crash with a motorist in a car

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a young boy was seriously injured when involved in a crash with a motorist while cycling.

The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon, with the boy
still undergoing medical treatment for his injuries.

Gardai have described the incident as a serious one and
an investigation is underway.

They have released a statement confirming some of the
details of the crash and have urged anyone who may be able to help the inquiry
to come forward.

“Gardaí at Tullamore are investigating the circumstances
of a serious collision involving a cyclist and motorist in Co Offaly,” it said.

“The collision occurred at approximately 2pm when a boy
aged nine years was struck by a car while cycling on a minor road at Heathfield,
Pollagh (Pullagh).

“He was treated at the scene and airlifted to Our Lady's
Children's Hospital, Crumlin.

“He has since been transferred to Temple Street Hospital
where his condition is understood to be serious. The driver of the car was not
injured.

“The scene has been examined by Garda Forensic Collison
Investigators and enquires are ongoing.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tullamore
