Cyclist injured in hit and run told by driver and wife: "We can't help you, it would upset our kids"

The people whose car hit this cyclist stopped and told him his bloodied face would upset her kids, who were on the way to school and already late.

A cyclist knocked from his bike, suffering serious facial injuries, was told by the woman passenger in the car that hit him that neither she nor the driver could stop and help him because his bloodied face would upset their kids.

Taron Stead (17) was knocked from his bike in traffic in Sheffield in the UK last Friday morning.

He had just bought a mountain bike and was commuting to his apprenticeship job in the IT sector.

The story appeared in the Sheffield Star newspaper and has since been picked up by the national press in the UK. At the time of writing it was starting to go viral on social media.

The injured boy’s mother, Naomi Pickard, said the woman who spoke to her son did not even leave her contact details.

“Taron said the woman in the car got out looked over at him, told him she had children in the car who were upset and she didn’t want them to be late for school, then the car drove off,” Ms Pickard told the newspaper.

“I can’t believe anyone would leave an injured child at the side of the road after a crash.

“But it was rush hour and it would have been busy so I am hoping that witnesses come forward and help the police trace the driver. There is CCTV in the area too.

“I hope the driver and his passenger who drove off see Taron’s injuries and think about their actions. Fortunately he was wearing a helmet, or I dread to think what might have happened.”

After being left badly injured at the side of the road, staff from Sheffield University close by came to Taron’s aid and called an ambulance.

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed the incident took place and are investigating.
