Cyclist injured in Dublin crash involving truck driver at scene of previous cycling fatality

A cyclist has been seriously injured at an "impossibly dangerous" junction in Dublin where a cyclist was killed two years ago in a crash which also involved a driver in a truck

A cyclist has been hospitalised with a serious injuries after a crash, involving the driver of a truck, at Dolphin's Barn Bridge in Dublin's south inner city. The location was the scene of a previous fatal crash that cost the life of a cyclist.

Two years ago Josilaine Ribeiro, a 36-year-old Brazilian woman, was killed at the same spot while she was cycling, after a crash that also involved a driver in a truck.

The Calm Crumlin Road Group has called for the junction at the bridge to upgraded, saying it was the only bridge on the canal that had not yet been upgraded. The group added despite the installation of new speed cameras, the junction was still "impossibly dangerous".

"We are so saddened by the news that yet another person has had a horrific collision with a left turning truck at Dolphins Barn Bridge," it added. "We wish the cyclist all the very best for her recovery. This should not have happened again."

The Garda has confirmed ist members and other emergency services workers attended the scene of the latest crash at the bridge on Crumlin Road, Dublin 12, early on Monday afternoon.

"The collision, involving a truck and a cyclist, occurred at approximately 12:25pm," it said. "The female cyclist was conveyed to St James’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time."

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information should contact gardaí.
