A woman has been hospitalised after a crash, involving a driver in a car, while she was cycling in Cork City today

A cyclist has been injured in a crash in Cork City involving driver in car, with gardaí now carrying out inquiries into the case. The collision occurred early this afternoon and the victim was hospitalised.

The female cyclist was being treated at Cork University Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment for unspecified injuries.

Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park in Dublin confirmed some of the details of the crash in a short statement on Monday evening.

"Gardaí responded to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedal cyclist on the Wilton Road Roundabout, Bishopstown, Cork city at approximately 12.30pm today," the statement said.

"The cyclist, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for injuries which are believed to be non life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing."
