Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a van driver

A cyclist in his 50s has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being involved in a crash with a driver in a van. The incident occurred on yesterday in Co Wexford, with gardaí launching an appeal for witnesses this evening.

A statement from Garda Headquarters, Dublin, said the cyclist is in hospital, where his injuries are described as serious. The crash is now under investigation by gardaí.

"At approximately 5:45pm gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a van and bicycle on the N25 at, Holmestown, Co. Wexford," the Garda said in its statement.

"The cyclist, a man in his 50s was taken to Wexford General Hospital to be treated for his injuries which are understood to be serious. No other injuries were reported.

"The scene was preserved for a technical examination which has since concluded. The road was closed for a period but has since reopened."

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward and contact them. They are also appealing to any road users who were on the N25 in the Holmestown area between 5:30pm and 6:00pm yesterday, and who have camera footage, to make it available to them.
