
Gardaí in Co Kerry have appealed for information from the public after a cyclist sustained serious injuries in a crash involving a driver in a car. The injured man, who is in his 50s, remains in hospital after in the crash early on Saturday.
The investigation team at Tralee Garda station has appealed to anyone who saw the crash, or those who may have been recording dashcam footage in the area at the time, to come forward.
The crash took place on the R551 at Caherslee, Tralee, in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to a statement from Garda Headquarters.
"Shortly after 1.30am, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision, which involved a cyclist and a car," the statement said. "The cyclist - aged in his 50s - was conveyed to University Hospital Kerry where he remains in a serious condition."
The road was closed for a period to facilitate a Garda technical examination aimed at gathering evidence to inform the inquiry into how the crash occurred. "Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward," the Garda statement added.
"Any road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - and were travelling in the Caherslee area of Tralee in the early hours of (Saturday) morning are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí."
