Cyclist hospitalised after crash with driver in cement truck in Dublin

A cyclist has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being involved in a crash with a driver in a cement lorry in south Dublin this morning, Thursday.

The crash occurred on Richmond Street South just before 9.30am. It appears the cyclist, believed to be a man in his 20s, suffered leg injuries.

He was taken from the scene by ambulance to St James's Hospital, where his condition was described as serious.

The exact cause of the crash was not clear and gardaí are now carrying out an investigation into the incident.

"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision, on the Richmond Street South, Dublin, on Thursday 6th January at 9:27am," a statement from the Garda said.

"The collision involved a bike and a truck. The cyclist (male) was taken to St James Hospital where he is been treated for serious injuries. The road has since reopened. Investigations are ongoing."
