This cyclist tried to jump the closing railway crossing gates in Ireland and things went horribly wrong. They crashed and damaged the crossing gate, delaying the train service by 30 minutes.
Cyclist hits railway crossing in Dublin, delays train
We've seen some pretty dodgy output on social media by some of our transport entities targeting cyclists like no other road users.
But in this case the highlighting of this cyclist's actions seem justified; as a safety warning to others if nothing else.
This incident had just emerged on social media, having been shared by Iarnród Éireann.
It shows railway crossing gates closing in Coolmine, Dublin. A cyclist, who is only a blur in the clip, decides to take a chance.
They sneak around the first closing gate. But by the time they get across the rail lines the next gate is closing too fast.
And the cyclist clips it, falling off and looking very much like they'd damaged the gate.
Iarnród Éireann claimed the gate had indeed been damaged. And it said the Maynooth train service was delayed for 30 minutes as a result.
Be careful out there people; don't take any chances.
Update: Maynooth services operating up to 30 mins late due level crossing damage caused by a cyclist. Pls heed #warningsignals & #bikesafety pic.twitter.com/2qsAtieC05
