Cyclist finds their stolen bike locked on Dublin street, leaves this note

This note and the broken lock tells the story of what happened when a cyclist found their stolen bike locked on a Dublin street and took it back

This note was left attached to a bike stand in Dublin, with the person who wrote it claiming they had just stolen/taken back their own bike.

According to the person who first posted it on social media, it appears the note's author happened across the bike locked up in the Smithfield area of Dublin's north inner city at the weekend.

The broken lock and note in the photo suggest the owner of the bike broke the lock and took back his/her own bike, while deciding to leave a note.

However, what is not clear is whether the person who locked the bike had actually stolen it, or whether they had bought the bike without realising it was stolen.

"You looking for the grey bike - I stole it back - it was mine," the note reads. "Photos and serial number to prove. So long sucker. Ha Ha loser."

When the photo of the note was posted on Reddit it provoked hundreds of responses, with many of those commentating approving of the bike being taken back though others were less sure.

The note was also later shared on Twitter and generated the same response; most delighted to see it but others suggesting the person who locked it in Smithfield was unlikely to be the person who stole it.
