Another cyclist has died on the roads. The latest victim passed away two days after being hit by a vehicle. He had been in hospital since the incident but has succumbed to his injuries.

A cyclist hit by a van in Derry on Thursday has died in hospital from his injuries. It has emerged the man, who was in his 20s, died in hospital on Saturday.

He was taken from the scene to the Royal Victoria Hospital where efforts to save him were not successful.

After the collision the driver of the van was arrested by the PSNI.

“He has since been released on police bail, pending further police inquiries,” a statement said.

The incident took place on the Glenshane Road between the turns for Maghera and Knockcloghrim.

A photograph emerged showing the van and bike badly damaged.

Inspector Andrew Archibald said the investigating officers were still seeking witnesses.

“I am appealing to anyone who was on the Glenshane Road between 8.10am and 8.30am on Thursday morning and has any information they believe could help the investigation, or who may have witnessed the incident to contact police.”
