
The latest cyclist death in a Dublin road crash means fatalities so far this year are more than double all of last year.
The number of cyclists killed on the roads of the Republic has now reached 11 so far this year after it emerged a woman hit by a bus last week died from her injuries two days later.
While news of the collision was reported in the media, including here on stickybottle; no word of the victim’s subsequent death has emerged until now.
The number of cyclist fatalities is more than twice the level reached in all of last year, when five cyclists lost their lives.
The latest victim was hit by a bus in south Dublin on Monday of last week.
While she was reported to be in a critical condition after the incident, it has now emerged she died this day last week, Wednesday, November 19th.
A statement from the Garda at the time said the 55-year-old woman was in collision with the bus while cycling on Burlington Road, off Leeson Street Upper in Dublin 4.
The incident occurred at 9.40pm.
The emergency services were called and the woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s University Hospital.
She died from her injuries in the hospital two days later, with gardai now investigating the fatality.
The road where the collision occurred was closed for a period and was examined by Garda crash scene investigators.
Gardai in Donnybrook station are investigating the matter.
