Cyclist dies in crash while descending iconic Kerry climb

Gardai have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to contact them after a cyclist died descending Conor Pass in Co Kerry this morning.

 

A cyclist in her thirties has died after crashing while descending the Conor Pass in Co Kerry.

The woman, from Germany, was descending the well-known climb when her bike left the road and she collided with a ditch, the Garda said.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident which took place around 10.30am this morning.

The woman’s body was removed to University Hospital Tralee after efforts to save her at the scene were not successful.

The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene. She was with her partner at the time of the accident.

Conditions were said to have been poor, though it’s not yet known if they were a factor in the tragic incident.

The Dingle to Kilcummin road was closed for a time as an investigation was carried out but it has since been reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the incident or who can assist them to contact Dingle Garda station.
