Gardai launch investigation after cyclist dies on group ride

Cyclist dies in Co Clare: The cyclists the man was with noticed he was no longer in the group and went back for him. However, they found him unresponsive by the roadside.

 

Gardai in Co Clare have launched an investigation after a cyclist died while on a group ride earlier today.

While the inquiry is at an early point, local news reports said gardai believe the deceased’s death was due to a medical issue.

Gardai do not believe there was any vehicle involved in the man’s death.

The victim, who was in his 50s, was riding as part of a group near Gort when the others in the group realised he was no longer with them.

They stopped and backtracked before finding the man at the side of the road. He was in an unresponsive state.

The location of the incident was about 2km from Crusheen. Gardai and an ambulance crew were called out.

The road was closed in both directions while paramedics tried to revive the cyclist.

He was then taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, but sadly was pronounced dead there.
