A cyclist who was found on a road in Co Mayo with life-threatening injuries has died, with gardaí now investigating his death and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

It remains unclear if a driver, or any other road user, was involved in the fatal incident last month, the nature of which remains unexplained.

At the time of the man's crash, gardaí made no mention of any third party involvement and now that the cyclist has died it is still not clear how the crash occurred.

The fatal incident happened early on the afternoon of Friday, February 28th, on the N17 in Co Mayo, between the airport and Charlestown. The victim, who was in his 60s, was found at the scene at 12.20pm on the day and taken to hospital.
