Cyclist dead after hit by car in Dublin, Garda inquiry launched

The Garda has launched an inquiry after a cyclist hit by a car in Dublin died.

A cyclist has been killed on the roads in Dublin City this afternoon, Sunday.
Gardai said the dead man was hit by a car in Dublin 8 just after 2pm.
He was brought from the collision scene on Conyngham Road by ambulance to hospital.
However, he died shortly after arriving at St James’s Hospital.
The dead man was in his 30s. No further information about him was available at the time of writing.
His death is the second fatality involving a cyclist on the Republic's roads so far this year.
Last month Tonya McEvoy was killed in Co Kildare when she was hit by a car while she was out training.
She was with a training group from Orwell Wheelers at the time.
A Garda investigation into today’s fatality is underway. It is being conducted from Kilmainham garda station.
The scene of the collision was also closed to traffic for an examination by the Garda.
The cyclist's death in the collision was confirmed in a media statement by the Gardai this afternoon.
“Gardaí in Kilmainham are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred between a motor car and a pedal cyclist this afternoon Sunday, 12th March, 2017,” the statement said.
“A male, in his 30s, pedal cyclist was seriously injured on Conyngham Road, Dublin 8 at approximately 2.15p.m.
“He was taken to St. James Hospital where he later passed away and a post mortem will take place. The female driver, in her 40s, received minor injuries.
“The scene of the collision on Conyngham Road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene. Road diversions are in place.”
Gardai in Kilmainham have asked that anyone in the vicinity of the fatal collision around the time it occurred contact them.
