Cyclist critically injured after hit by van in Co Derry
A cyclist is in hospital in a critical condition after he was in collision with a motorist driving a van earlier today.
The incident took place on the Glenshane Road in Co Derry just after 8am.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland is now investigating how the cyclist was hit by the van.
Its officers have appealed for anyone who was in the area between approximately 8.10am and 8.30am to come forward.
The collision took place on the stretch between the turns off the road for Maghera and Knockcloghrim.
It is envisaged that the Glenshane Road near Maghera will remain closed in both directions following a serious road traffic collision. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast have confirmed the cyclist was taken there for treatment.
He is in his 20s and is in critical condition.
The road where the crash took place was closed in both directions and remained closed this evening.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said its staff attended the scene.
“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was called at 8.26am this morning following reports of an RTC involving a cyclist on the Glenshane Road, Maghera,” it said in a statement.
"Two paramedic officers and two A&E crews were dispatched to the incident. The Air Ambulance also attended.
“Following assessment and treatment at the scene, one patient has been transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital."
