
A cyclist has been taken to hospital after he crashed from his bike in Co Louth and was then struck by a passing driving as he was crashed on the road. The driver then fled the scene of the crash and a manhunt is underway in a bid to find them.
Gardaí have no issued an appeal for assistance from members of the public as they try to solve the crime and locate the hit and run driver involved in the incident on Monday afternoon.
They released details of the incident, which occurred on the Castletown Road, Dundalk, Co Louth, last Monday, September 25th. The injured cyclist is in his 20s and was taken to hospital for treatment for what gardaí described as "serious injuries".
"At approximately 1.50pm a pedal cyclist fell from his bicycle and was struck by a passing vehicle on the Castletown Road, Dundalk. The car failed to remain at the scene of the collision," the Garda statement said.
"The male pedal cyclist was seriously injured during the collision. He was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Dundalk where he was treated for his injuries which are non-life threatening. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.
"Any road users and pedestrians who were on Castletown Road, Dundalk and surrounding areas on the afternoon of Monday between 1.45pm and 2.30pm and noticed any unusual activity is asked to contact investigating gardaí.
"Anyone who may have camera footage (including dash cam) of this area for Monday afternoon is asked to make this available to gardaí."
