Cyclist airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after crash with driver

A man out cycling suffered serious injuries in a crash with a driver in Co Cork. He has been airlifted to hospital and gardaí are now investigating

A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a crash with a driver in a car in Co Cork. The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was transferred by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital from the crash scene on the N71 at Barleyhill East, near Rosscarbery, Co Cork.

The crash occurred today at about 9am and gardaí from Clonakilty are carrying out an investigation and have asked any witnesses to come forward.

"The cyclist, a male in his 60s, was transferred by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. There were no other injuries reported," gardaí said in a statement.

"The road between Rosscarbery and Leap remains closed at this time to facilitate a technical examination by forensic collision investigators. Local traffic diversions are currently in place. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward."
