A cyclist who crashed during a bike ride in Co Wexford on Saturday has been airlifted by the crash scene by the Air Corps. The cyclist suffered serious injuries in the crash, apparently with a lorry, and was undergoing medical treatment in hospital.
The road where the incident occurred has been sealed off for examination by Garda crash scene investigators.
While the cause of the crash was still under investigation by the Garda, it appears the cyclist hit a stationary lorry. Early reports suggest the truck was parked on the hard shoulder of the road between Oylegate and Kyle Cross.
The crash occurred just after 1pm near Oylegate and while the cyclist suffered serious injuries, it is understood his life was not at risk.
"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of road traffic collision on the N11 at Olyegate, Co Wexford, today, at 12.45pm, involving a cyclist and trailer," Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin, said in a statement.
"The cyclist has been taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The road has since reopened."
