
Gardai have opened an investigation after a cyclist was left injured by a roadside in Co Kildare after he was hit by a driver who then left the scene.
The hit and run occurred yesterday afternoon, with the
cyclist requiring hospitalization for his injuries.
Gardai are now searching for the driver and have appealed
for any witnesses, or anyone who can help the criminal investigation, to come
forward.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in regards to a
suspected hit and run road traffic collision in Clane, Co Kildare, October 21st,”
Garda HQ, Phoenix Park, Dublin, said in a statement about the incident.
“An investigation commenced when a 34-year-old male
cyclist was discovered with injuries on the R403 Dublin Road, in Longtown North,
Clane at approximately 1.40pm.
“It’s understood he was struck by a passing vehicle that
failed to remain at the scene. The injured man was taken by ambulance to Naas
General Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the hit and run or who has
camera footage, including dash cam, is asked to contact Gardaí.
