Cyclist (20s) killed in crash involving truck driver, third cyclist death in one week

A woman in her 20s has been killed in a crash while cycling in Cork City, in a collision involving a truck driver. It was the third cyclist death of the last week following fatal crashes in Co Meath and Co Carlow last Friday.

The latest fatal incident occurred last evening, Thursday, in Cork City, when the deceased woman lost her life just after 6pm.

"The collision… occurred at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road at approximately 6:15pm," Garda Headquarters said in a statement on Friday morning.

"The cyclist, a female in her 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

"The road is closed pending a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

"Any road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - and were travelling in the area between 6:00pm and 6:30pm on Thursday 18th September 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí."
